A house of history
The Town House officially opened in January 1882 and was designed in the Victorian Gothic style of the period. Matthews and Lawrie, Inverness, were the architects of the Town House, and the overall cost of the building was £12,500 – a meagre sum by today’s standards. Of the £12,500 cost, £5,000 came from a legacy that was left by Duncan Grant of the Bught, whose father had served as Provost of Inverness. Grant’s widow used the legacy to create the principal stained glass windows in the Hall.
